My research deals with the legacy of a multi-ethnic past of Turkey, focusing on contested identities and historical memory in the Black Sea Region. My work explores how current inhabitants of the region articulate their understandings of self and belonging in relation to nation-state formation and minority groups. My previous research has examined political apologies in Turkey, examining the implications of these memory practices for coming to terms with a difficult past.
